16.11.2009 MADALGO Seminar: Hamish Carr, University College Dublin

Title: Applications & Questions in Topological Visualization

Speaker: Hamish Carr, University College Dublin

Abstract:

Computational topology is attractive for visualization tasks because it provides abstractions of scalar fields that can be exploited either directly or indirectly to extract information and knowledge from underlying data sets. The first part of this talk will provide a brief survey of the applications reported to date, while the second part will focus on unresolved questions relating to adaptive meshing, higher-order interpolation, and applications to multi-variate data.

19.11.2009 Peter Wright - Life after technology as experience: Bringing user experience to design

Professor Peter Wright besøger i perioden 16. -20 november Center for Digital Urban Living og afholder i den anledning en en åben forelæsning med titlen: Life after Technology as Experience: Bringing User Experience to Design.

Abstract
Terry Winograd was right when he stated that designing for the whole range of human experience would be the next great challenge for design. But what does it mean to design for human experience? It means we have to understand the people we design for, not just as subjects of scientific analysis but as people who, as John Dewey would say, grow, love, live, suffer and endure and who make and do stuff in order to locate themselves in a world.
In this talk I want to outline some health-related projects I am currently involved with which have taken different approaches to the problem of bringing lived experience to design including life story work, participant observation, community-based research and experience-based co-design. In the process I will report on progress towards a critical framework for conceptualising the topography of user engagement in experience-centred design.
